Here is how I monetize my Medium articles to continue earning from my writing after five years.

Medium is an open platform where people can share articles and small stories they are interested in. In the last few years, Medium has emerged as a very popular platform and is now known as one of the best places to find good articles and diverse opinions.

I believe that when a writer wants to get his work out to a large audience of readers, the best place to go is Medium. Finally, I also liked how intuitive Medium’s editor interface is regarding writing and sharing content. Writers can create their own free accounts on Medium, write long-form articles on Medium’s integrated text editor, and publish them instantly.

In mid-2016, I began writing and posting articles on the new platform, Medium. I selected topics in areas that interest me and that I have knowledge in technology, business, productivity, and personal self-improvement. I realized that I had to keep writing quality content continuously to gain a reputation on the platform and attract more readers. I have had articles with more than 50,000 reads, excluding those I have written freelancing for other outlets.

This meant that as my articles began to gain recognition, I could join Medium’s Partner Program as a writer and make money from my writing. I began to turn my Medium content into cash in a couple of ways: First, I had my readers ‘applaud’ my articles, while the Partner Program unlocked payment for members-only content.

Reader Applauds: This feature allows readers to show their appreciation by buying ” applause” and gifting them to authors. These applauds help the Company make money, and as a Partner, writers receive the money earned from the applauds. I get reader applause which earns me between $30- $60 every month.

Premium Stories: It should also be noted that partners can make some of the stories exclusive to paid Medium users and members. Every time a reader relieves me of my premium stories, I get a commission of membership to the site known as Medium. My premium story income comes up to approximately one hundred dollars per month’s consumption.

Regarding my payments from the Medium articles, I receive between $130 and $160 per month in total. It is not enough that I can live off of it full time, but it’s good to have extra money from content you love creating. Even if I am still receiving relatively small amounts of money from Medium, I observe that the earnings are constantly rising with every month and the number of my readers and stories. Ideally, I should continue amassing my audience and earn more income from the platform.
